In early 1950s, Lin Fengmian retired from the National Fine Art School, and moved from Hangzhou to Shanghai. During this period of hard-earned peace, the artist was released from his teaching duties and was allowed to focus on his own artistic pursuit, thus beginning a golden era in his career in the 1950s.
